This was my first Japanese knife back in the day. Elegant, beautiful, light, well balanced. Western handle is a great help for beginners, as is the blade, Will hold sharpness for very long, and wont rust. As for sharpness question... it depends on how much I sharpen it.

I've been completely spoiled by this knife, I cant go back to regular chef's knives now. It has a very nice weight, its rather light but not too light and its very thin. Its great for finely slicing vegetables. Its super sharp and retains its edge pretty well, id still recommend using the steel on it before every use to get the most out of it.
