There is a tradition of Sakai Hamono (cutlery), which has continued for 600 years. My greatest mission is to carry on the tradition of these knives, which are said to be the best knives in the world.
My name is Yoshinobu Yamawaki. I entered this business in 1982. After about 10 years in the knife industry, I thought I understood all the knives already.
However, when I was working, I cut my finger severely with my company's knife. My finger was bent like this. That was the first time I realized that I still did not know anything about knives. That was my big mistake, but it changed my way of thinking about knives.
Just recently I felt the greatest sense of accomplishment. We have built a factory. The young people from that factory are now very talented sharpeners in Sakai. That is my greatest joy since I entered this industry.
The Sakai Hamono (cutlery) tradition has been around for 600 years. But no company has existed for 600 years. The tradition has all been carried on in relay. We are part of it. In the world of Sakai kitchen knives, which are the best knives in the world, I consider it my greatest mission to carry on the tradition.
Expensive knives give me the greatest sense of accomplishment when I finish them. I think the quality of our company is the best in Sakai. A beautiful knife becomes smaller and smaller as it is used, and can be used for a long time. Of course, we are proud of the sharpness of our knives. I hope you will use our knives.
It is said in Japan, "Children who need special care are cute." We want our customers to enjoy this trouble. If you do so, you will gradually become more attached to the knife you are using. I really want people to enjoy the troublesome nature of knives.
Musashi is a very progressive company. The transaction volume will grow more. The company will continue to grow. Musashi understands the traditions of Sakai very well, and they are challenging new things. They are a very reliable company for us.
Our company policy is not to become the best cutlery shop in Sakai, in Japan, or in the world. Our goal is to become the No. 1 kitchen knife technical group in Sakai or in Japan, or even the world if possible. We want to carefully deliver each knife that we have made with the utmost care and attention. And we hope that you will use them for a lifetime. That is what we hope for.
